☕ Girl, Take a Rest!

Hi friend! 👋

How has your rest been these days? Here at Coffee and Bible Time, we’ve been thinking about rest A LOT…maybe because it’s been so hard to do lately!

Do you ever feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day for everything you need to do? Like no matter how hard you work, there’s still more to accomplish? Or maybe you (like me) spend your precious free time scrolling or shopping, only to find that it leaves you just as tired as before…🤳🛍️

Jesus has an answer for us 🫶 it’s called Sabbath. ✨

Sabbath is the Jewish and Christian practice of setting aside one day each week to stop working and intentionally rest. We see God doing this in Genesis: after spending six days making the universe, he stopped to enjoy what he had made (Genesis 2:2-3). 🌎💫

Then, in the gospels, Jesus consistently pauses from his ministry to rest and pray—sometimes alone, sometimes with his closest friends.

If our Creator and Savior made time for rest, shouldn’t we?

Here are some questions to get you started on curating a Sabbath practice.

Is there a day that you can set aside to rest and be with God?

If a day feels too hard, try starting with just a few hours! The goal isn’t instant perfection, it’s slow and consistent progress toward being more like Jesus. 😊🩷

What are some activities or hobbies that bring you joy?

Delighting in the blessings God has given you is a wonderful way to delight in HIM! ✨ I love to make music during my Sabbath; my mom uses that time to garden. Maybe for you, a soul-filling day would include frisbee with friends or a really good cup of coffee. 👀🌿

What would intentional time with God look like in this season of life?

For those with less capacity (I’m looking at you, baby mama! 👶), try starting with praying a Psalm. If you want to dig a little deeper, maybe set aside 15-30 minutes for intentional prayer, or start a weekly deep-dive into a book of the Bible. 📖👷‍♀️

At the heart of Sabbath is Jesus’s invitation in Matthew 11: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” 💗

My prayer is that Sabbath will become a time for you to connect with the One who is the source of true rest, no matter our circumstances—Jesus.

Wishing you peace and rest,

Taylor

Dear Friend👋, This past week has been heavy. There was a sudden death in my church family and another in a circle of friends I went to school with. The sting of death is a painful reminder of the brokenness of this world. In moments like these, I’m reminded of the importance of cherishing our loved ones—and even more so, cherishing the life God has given us here and now.💕 As I’ve been reading through Genesis with the Coffee and Bible Time community, one verse about Enoch stood out to me:...
