Helping Women Delight in God’s Word |
👋 Hey friend,
Let's be honest...emotions are complicated. 🌀
It seems like every time someone asks how I'm doing, I find myself listing three or four different things going on...that I feel three or four different ways about!
Let me give you an example.
Recently someone asked me how I'm feeling about attending a new church, and I didn't know what to say! 😶
I’m grateful that God’s given me a new church home. 🤲
I’m also grieving the community I left behind. ❤️🩹
And at the same time, I’m excited to make new friends. 😄
Anyone else feeling an emotional whirlwind? 😵💫🤪
This week, Mentor Mama helped me reframe my emotions. Here’s what I learned:
1. Pay attention to joy and sorrow showing up together.
Think of moments like the birth of a child or the loss of a loved one… becoming a caretaker, watching a child leave for college, graduating. These changes stir up many emotions at once. Start by noticing them.
2. Notice the “but’s.”
When you say, “I’m exhausted… but I love what I’m doing,” you’re holding two truths at once. Practice naming both: “I’m tired and grateful.” That’s emotional maturity.
3. Name your emotions—both the good and the hard—in prayer.
God can handle your honesty. Remember Hannah (1 Sam 1–2), David (Psalm 6), and even Jesus (Matt 26–27). If they could bring their full selves to the Father, so can you.
Does this resonate? If so, don’t miss this week’s podcast episode. We dive deeper into this idea and how to live it out.
All our love,
